Educational institutions in the US are facing a continuous distressing state of school shootings chiefly in schools. School Shootings in the U.S.A should be a safe place for study purposes but in past years educational institutes have turned into an unpredictable place.
School Shootings over the Years
The U.S. has faced a series of gunfire incidents at schools over the years. According to the US trusted resource for educational news Education Week, up to 119 gunfire incidents have occurred in different territories of the country since 2018.
This number includes frightening incidents of gunfire with injuries and causalities. Other numbers are around the corner where school premises were traumatized by the armed students but with no injuries and causalities. To the misfortune, 88 people have lost their precious lives and 229 got injured due to these shooting episodes.
The motive behind these Shootings
Unfortunately, the shooters in these entire scenarios are students of schools. Here the question arises about their motive. At the tender age of enjoying their lives to full, to learn and explore the world around them, why they are involved in such terrible acts. The renowned Alfred University of the US has conducted a research base survey to figure out the motive behind these shootings.
The survey primarily states that revenge is the foremost reason. Teenagers under 19, with an abusive home environment, facing extreme bullying by friends and family, revenge on dating their choice of girl, racism, the unacceptability of being gay and lesbians, having easy gun access, and mental health problems are involved in these wrongdoings. The top motive is revenge that they badly desire to take.
Controlling Measures
Gunfire incidents at school are increasing on a massive scale. A study states that 12 children are murdered from gun violence each day in America and 32 get injured. This is really a distressing condition. The immediate implications of controlling measures are badly needed to implement without any delay.
According to Sandy Hook Promise (a group formed after the Sandy Hook school gunfire accident), report guns are easier to access in American teenagers which is an alarming triggering point and needs to be controlled as first priority.
Counseling at every level has become the foremost thing to be done at schools. Proper security checkup points need to be installed and evaluated. Parents need to be very vigilant in keeping their guns out of reach from their children. If not stopped or controlled, schools are not considered to be a safe and healthy learning place for children in the US.
Schools in the U.S.A should be a safe place for study purposes but in past years educational institutes have turned into an unpredictable place full of shootings and bullying.
Unfortunately, the shooters in these entire scenarios are not always students in the schools and most suffer from mental health disorders. Do you question the shooters motives? Do you think that you know why this is happening?
These school shootings should be a cry for mental health assistance, education and support. It is apparent that most of the shooters have mental health disorders whether diagnosed or undiagnosed, these are people in fact patients.
We need society to come together and assist people with mental health disorders. The time has come to level up and do something about it!
